Özet

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine how much of the impairment was directly the result of the deformity and how much was due to disuse and also to establish how changes in this program affected the results obtained from physiotherapy. Case description: This case report which was partially presented as a poster is about a five years old girl with Klippel Fell Syndrome referred to our Orthotics and Biomechanics Department in the year 1994 for an exercise program and a cervical collar. The assessments made when the patient was first seen, during an intensive physiotherapy program, during a swimming and aquatic exercise program, during cessation of treatment due to disease and hospitalisation, and again when treatment was resumed during five years follow up show how these changes were reflected to range of motion, thoracic excursion, muscle strength, and social adjustment. Outcomes: The results of the study emphasise the importance of sustaining treatment with regular follow-up throughout life in individuals with congenital deformities.
