Abdominal wall endometriosis is a rare complication of extrapelvic endometriosis developing secondary to the surgical scars. In this study twelve abdominal wall endometriosis cases were evaluated retrospectively. The demographic characteristics of the subjects; age, parity, symptoms, duration of the symptoms, time interval between the first operation and the development of scar endometriosis and the properties of patients with recurrence were recorded. The time interval from the initial operation till to the beginning of the symptoms were between 1 to 5 years. Mean age of the patients was 27.8 years and the most common symptoms were found to be cyclic pain and the masses in the surgical scars. Medical treatment was administered to only 4 subjects to alleviate symptoms before the surgical approach. The recurrence rate was recorded as 16%. When the features of the recurrent cases were studied, the recurrence time was found to be between 1 to 2 months after surgery and the recurrences were seen in patients who were operated for multiple endometriotic focuses. Surgical excision of the abdominal wall endometriotic lesions seems to be the only beneficial treatment and a clear bordered surgery with wide local excision plays a key role in the prevention of recurrences.
