Abstract

In this study, rapid first derivative UV spectrophotometric assay procedure is described for the simultaneous determination of cetrimide and chlorhexidine gluconate in their binary combination. The method has been applied successfully to an antiseptic solution containing cetrimide and chlorhexidine gluconate. The relative standard deviation and mean recovery of the method were found to be 1.79% and 99.4% for cetrimide and 1.50% and 99.9% for chlorhexidine gluconate. dA/dλ values were measured at 221.3 nm and 268.9 nm for cetrimide and chlorhexidine gluconate respectively in the first derivative spectra of their mixture.
