Interventional radiology has expanded with new technology, becoming a clinical science, and demanding more time from anesthesiology teams. It can be classified as visceral (non-vascular) and vascular interventional radiology. Vascular interventions are further divided into peripheral and cerebral (neurointerventional) cases. Neurovascular intervention in particular has emerged as a rapidly evolving multidisciplinary science. Different interventions may require or necessitate different preparation, monitorization, sedation and anesthesia modalities. In this review, types of radiological interventions that require anesthesia assistance, as well as specific anesthetic approaches recommended for each one, are discussed.
