In this study, we aim to investigate distance from the limbus to the rectus muscle insertions and distance between each rectus muscle insertions. The study was performed on 60 eyes taken from 30 cadavers (17 male, 13 female). Insertions of the rectus muscles were clearly exposed under the dissection microscope. Distances were measured with Vernier caliber after dissection of the muscles. Our results indicated that the distance from the limbus to the medial rectus muscle was the shortest (6.4±0.5 mm) and from the limbus to the superior rectus muscle was the longest 8.1±0.5 mm). When we measured length of line (width) of the rectus muscle insertions, we observed that the rectus superior was the widest (10.5±1.0 mm) and the rectus inferior was the narrowest (8.4±0.6 mm). When we compared the distances between the closest rectus muscles we found that the distance between the lateral rectus and inferior rectus was the longest (9.0±0.5 mm), and the distance between the medial rectus and inferior rectus was the shortest (7.3±0.4 mm). Vertical diameter of the globe and cornea were measured as 23±0.7 mm and 11.6±0.7 mm, respectively. Horizontal diameter of them was measured as 23.3±0.5 mm and 11.8±1.0 mm, respectively.
