A new spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of rifamycin SV sodium and lidocaine hydrochloride in their binary mixture are described. In the method, derivative spectrophotometry, the determination of these drugs was performed by measuring the dA/dλ values at 312.0 nm and 254.6 nm in the first derivative spectra of the mixture for rifamycin SV sodium and lidocaine hydrochloride respectively. The relative standard deviations of the method were found to be 1.89% for rifamycin SV sodium and 0.52% for lidocaine hydrochloride. The results for rifamycin SV sodium obtained by this method compared with those obtained by another new and selective method based on the oxidation of rifamycin SV sodium with sodium bismutate. These methods were successfully applied to an injection solution containing these drugs.
