It is recommended to limit drug prescriptions to essential drugs to be used for a reasonable time and to periodically re-evaluate the drug treatment to minimize the adverse drug-herbal product and drug-food interactions. The interaction of herbal products with medicines to be used especially in sensitive groups such as oncology patients, geriatric patients and pregnant women should be taken very seriously. The aim of this review is to create a guide explaining the commonly encountered drug-herbal product interactions with mechanisms especially for pharmacists, who are the closest health consultants to patients, and also for physicians, nurses and other health care providers; and to contribute to the rational use of drugs by increasing awareness of health providers on safe use of medicines as well as herbal products to prevent unwanted outcomes.
