Apnea testing is the last clinical examination for the diagnosis of brain death. In this review, the criteria for the diagnosis of brain death in children and especially apnea testing is summarized and different techniques for apnea testing are detailed. The concept of brain death in children is has been established and widely accepted. More data is needed especially in very young children as there are medical, moral, ethical controversies in this age group. The technique for apnea testing should be clarified and standardized. More research is needed regarding the education, the technique of apnea testing, documentation and the observation period in our country.
