Evaluation of Speech Comprehension in Noise (HINT-C) in Twin Children: Preliminary Results Abstract: Language development in children begins with birth. The stimuli and interactions he receives during infancy have a great place in the child's speech. There are many studies investigating the effects of genetic factors and environmental conditions on speech. In this study, we evaluated the speech comprehension skills of twin siblings who came for speech therapy with the Turkish HINT-C (Hearing in Noise Test for Children). With this method, we can better evaluate the actual listening performance. All children participating in the study were first examined by the Lokman Hekim Hospital Ear Nose and Throat Physician and hearing tests were performed. Audiology test, Otoacoustic emission test and Acoustic imitancemetry tests were applied to 12 children participating in the study. Twelve children (6 twins) between the ages of 6 and 12 participated in the study. All of the participating children (4/8 ,M/F) are receiving speech-language therapy for speech sound disorders. Turkish HINT-C test was applied to twin siblings without hearing loss. When the test results were examined, close Speech Comprehension Thresholds (BPI) were obtained between the twin siblings, while different BPI values were obtained 13th UTSAK, 26-27 August, Ankara | 450 among the general group. The test was done in two stages, first the HINT-C test was performed in a quiet environment (no noise). In general, the children's Speech Comprehension Thresholds average was 97.45%. Afterwards, in the tests performed with the loudspeaker placed at an angle of 90 degrees on the application, an average of 66.96% was obtained. A significant difference was observed between the two tests. Due to the small number of participants, our findings are presented as preliminary results.
