Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of a home program on muscle strength and motor function in subjects with spinal muscular atrophy type 2 and type 3. Material and methods: Twenty subjects with diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy type 2 and type 3 were included in the study. Range of motion, muscle shortness, manual muscle strength and motor function were evaluated, and each subject was followed with an appropriate home program. At the third and sixth months after the first evaluation, the evaluation procedure was repeated. Results: There were no significant differences in the range of motion, muscle shortness and muscle strength before and after the home program. The difference in Hammersmith functional motor scale was significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, functional abilities responded better than muscle strength to a home program. Further prospective long-term studies on homogeneous groups are needed to investigate the effects more accurately.
